HOPE LAB
Group Education Sessions
Group Support
Each multifaceted intervention incorporates a series of evidence-based group education sessions to encourage lifestyle behavior changes. Group sessions provide opportunity to discuss ideas, share successes and challenges, and create a community of social support for study participants. Sessions are designed to encourage participants to share in a respectful and non-confrontational manner. HOPE Lab incorporates behavioral theory-based techniques into sessions to encourage positive group dynamics.
Evidence-based Recommendations
Each group educational session provides a valuable opportunity to learn about the most up-to-date evidence for lifestyle recommendations set forth by leading organizations to counter the mixed messaging regarding nutrition and physical activity patterns that are frequently encountered. Sessions highlight how evidence-based guidelines can be implemented to improve modifiable lifestyle behaviors.
Expert-led Facilitation
Each group education session is facilitated by an expert (e.g., Exercise Physiologist, Registered Dietitian, Oncologist, Food Safety Specialist) and includes opportunities for engagement and interaction. The combination of targeted information and group interaction creates a supportive environment, thus engaging and empowering participants to make lifestyle changes and adopt a dietary pattern consistent with evidence-based guidelines.
