Self-Monitoring

Provision of health-focused supportive technology encourages participants to take ownership of their personal health goals and employ self-monitoring techniques. This serves as a strategy for sustained success through the encouragement of active engagement in one’s own lifestyle behaviors. HOPE Lab’s Registered Dietitians utilize technology to review health data and collaborate with study participants to make gradual change.

Accountability

Our study provides targeted and collaborative counseling utilizing Motivational Interviewing to encourage participants to reach health related goals. This one on one support adds an additional layer of encouragement that cannot be replicated through technology alone. Additionally, participants have access to a secure web portal to allow them to access additional resources such as short exercise videos and fitness tips geared toward cancer survivors.

Smart Technology

Our study utilizes technology such as cellular applications, SMART scales, and activity trackers to enhance participant engagement with their health data. Wearable technology and SMART scales allow participants to sync physical activity and weight data to a smart phone, allowing for targeted feedback on behaviors in real time. By raising awareness of health behaviors, participants can use their health data to identify both strengths and areas of improvement. Additionally, virtual challenges can be joined to encourage participation and social support.
